In the past week, I’ve been part of two webinars hosted using platforms that aren’t Mac friendly. In one instance, I was moderating a webinar for my good friend, Peter Temple, who offered a super interesting session on How To Vlog in 30 Minutes or Less. He chose GoToWebinar and found out after signing up for the service that if you’re working on a Mac, you can’t record the session. (Apparently this feature is “coming soon”).
Earlier this week, I signed on to participate in a webinar given by another friend, professional speaker, Karen Carleton, President of Kaizen for People. She was presenting on behalf of an organization who’d chosen MS Live Meeting for their webinar.
Being a MS product, Live Meeting doesn’t try very hard to accommodate Macs. Not only did the platform only work in one browser (Safari), there was no audio available during the session. Clicking on the voice tool resulted in a message stating that it was necessary to download MS Live Meeting Audio Client, but no instructions on how to do that or where to get it.
A Google search revealed that Live Meeting has limited capabilities with Mac – including zero abilities to watch pre-recorded webinars.
When you’re choosing a webinar platform, consider its cross-platform useability. In other words, make sure that participants who are tuning in from both Macs and PCs can see, hear and participate in the live event and watch the recordings, too.
